Complete shutdown observed in occupied Kashmir

Srinagar, June 11 : In occupied Kashmir, complete shutdown was observed, today, to mark the commencement of Martyrs Week to remember the Kashmiri martyrs including those 122 innocent youth who were shot dead by Indian troops and police personnel during mass uprising in the territory in 2010.

Call for observance of the Week had been given by the forum patronised by the veteran Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani. All shops, business establishments, educational institutions, banks and courts remained closed while traffic was off the road.

The occupation authorities had placed Hurriyet leaders including, Syed Ali Gilani, Shabbir Ahmed Shah and Zafar Akbar Butt under house arrest. The puppet authorities had imposed restrictions in different parts of Srinagar to prevent people from holding anti-India protests and paying tributes to the Kashmiri martyrs. Indian troops and police personnel deployed in strength in Srinagar were seen patrolling the deserted streets of the city.

A silent sit-in was staged at Press Colony in Srinagar that was led by Kashmiri human rights activist, Muhammad Ahsan Untoo, and participated by the relatives of those martyred in 2010.

The APHC Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, talking in Srinagar to the officials of Japanese Embassy in New Delhi told them that Indian troops and police personnel had subjected over 120 innocent Kashmiris to target killing in 2010 but the killers were still roaming freely.

Addressing a condolence meeting at Sada Kadal in Srinagar, liberation leaders including Muhammad Yasin Malik, Aasiya Andrabi, Mian Abdul Qayoom, Ghulam Nabi Shaheen, Shakeel Ahmed Bakhshi and Javed Ahmed Mir paid rich tributes to the Kashmiri martyrs. The Kashmir University Students Union in its statement paid glowing tributes to the martyrs of 2010.

In Islamabad, speakers at a seminar organised by the APHC-AJK chapter said that the Kashmiri people would continue their struggle till they achieved their inalienable right to self-determination. It was presided over by the Convenor, Mahmood Ahmed Saghar and addressed among others by Ghulam Muhammad Safi, Syed Yousuf Naseem, Sardar Khalid Ibraheem, Shaikh Tajammul-ul-Islam, Ghulam Nabi Nowshehri and Raja Yasin.
