Srinagar, November 10 : In occupied Kashmir, the All Parties Hurriyet Conference Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has demanded immediate removal of Indian military camps from towns and villages in the territory.
Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who is under house arrest at his residence in Srinagar, speaking to the family of martyred Gowhar Ahmad Dar over phone expressed his condolences and sympathies with them and paid tributes to the martyred youth.
22-year-old Gowhar Ahmad Dar of Zainakote, an engineering student of Sir Syed Memorial (SSM) College, was killed when he was hit by a teargas shell fired by personnel of Indian paramilitary forces on peaceful protesters at Zainakote on Saturday evening.
Demanding stern punishment to the killers, the Mirwaiz said that the Indian forces were committing gross human rights violations with impunity due to protection provided to them under black laws like Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA). “These laws allow the Indian forces to get away with human rights violations,” he added.
The presence of military camps in villages and towns of Kashmir, he said, is one of the main reasons for the killing of youth.
The Mirwaiz also condemned oppressive tactics used by the forces on the peaceful and unarmed people of downtown Srinagar. “The naked aggression of the forces against the people especially use of pepper gas was the worst kind of aggression and state-sponsored ,” he said.
Promising that sacrifices of Gowhar and other martyrs would not be allowed to go waste, he said that the cause for which these sacrifices had been offered would be taken to its logical conclusion at all costs.
