In occupied Kashmir, the Jammu and Kashmir Salvation Movement on Sunday demanded immediate release of illegally detained Hurriyet leaders including party Chairman, Zafar Akbar Butt, activists and youth. The party spokesman in a statement issued in Srinagar said that India had failed in crushing freedom sentiments of Kashmiri people despite use of brute force. He hailed people for observing a complete shutdown on the poll day and said that majority of people in the territory had rejected the sham polls which should serve an eye-opener for India government as well as for the world community

He said that hundreds of Hurriyet leaders, activists and innocent youth continued to languish in different jails and police stations in the territory. He said that during the sham polls Indian forces were commenting grave human rights violations particularly legal and medical aid was being denied to illegally detained youth.

He said that harassment, intimidation and deliberate disregard for the human, civil and political rights of Kashmiri people would not deter them in securing their ineligible right to self determination.

The spokesman appealed to the international community particularly human rights organizations including Amnesty International to mount pressure on Indian government and ensure release of all illegally detained Hurriyet leaders and youths.
