Srinagar, June 17 : In occupied Kashmir, the Indian police arrested Hurriyet leaders including Syed Ali Gilani, Shabbir Ahmed Shah, Nayeem Ahmed Khan and Qazi Yasir to prevent them from paying tributes to the Kashmiri martyrs and addressing a seminar in Srinagar, today.
The police arrested Syed Ali Gilani, Altaf Ahmed Shah and Ayaz Akbar when they were proceeding towards the Mazar-e-Shuhada Eidgah in Srinagar to offer fateha for the martyrs particularly for those killed by Indian troops and police personnel during 2010 uprising. Later, the leaders were scheduled to attend a seminar held in connection with the 18th martyrdom anniversary of noted Kashmiri scholar, Qazi Nisar, who was martyred on June 19, 1994.
The police took into custody Shabbir Ahmed Shah, Nayeem Ahmed Khan and Zafar Akbar Butt from different areas of Srinagar while Qazi Yasir from Pampore when they were heading to participate in the seminar. Shabbir Shah was placed under house arrest while other leaders were lodged at different police stations.
Addressing the seminar, the speakers eulogised the services of Qazi Nisar for the Kashmir cause and reaffirmed the Kashmiris’ resolve to accomplish the mission of Kashmiri martyrs at all costs. They said that the sacrifices of Kashmiri martyrs, which had centre-staged the Kashmir dispute at global level, would not be allowed to go waste. The speakers included Hurriyet leaders, Muhammad Yousuf Naqash, Javed Ahmed Mir, Maulana Abdul Qayoom, Shabbir Ahmad Dar, Muhammad Altaf Nadvi and Tahir Ahmad Mir.
On the other hand, complete shutdown was observed in Bandipore town for the second consecutive day, today, against the desecration of holy Quran by the workers of an Indian construction company. The Jamaat-e-Islami of occupied Kashmir and the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Freedom League Chairman, Muhammad Farooq Rehmani, in their statements denounced the desecration of holy Quran.
The spokesman of High Court Bar Association of the territory in a statement strongly condemned the inhuman treatment meted out to the illegally detained Hurriyet leaders and activists at Kot Bhalwal and Amphala jails in Jammu.
Six troops of Indian Central Reserve Police Force were injured when unidentified persons lobbed a grenade at a CRPF picket in Sopore town, today.
