Geelani sets demilitarization as pre-condition for dialogue on Kashmir

Geelani said that India is trying all means to “legitimize” its illegal control on Kashmir since 1947.

Hurriyat (G) Chairman Syed Ali Geelani on Thursday said that he was not against talks as a means to end conflicts, but the process held over 150 times on Kashmir had failed because of its “deceptive nature” and “arrogant attitude of India.”

“In principle, were never against the talks as we believe that even after deadly conflicts and destructive wars, things are settled through the dialogue only. But given the long and deceptive nature of the talks on Kashmir we have witnessed this exercise going on more than 150 times without yielding any results till date. The only reason being the unrealistic and arrogant attitude of India,” Geelani said in a statement issued here today.

Geelani said that India is trying all means to “legitimize” its illegal control on Kashmir since 1947.

“We are fighting for our basic right, for the last 7 decades and whenever the struggle gains momentum and threatens the very existence of Indian occupation here, they use these gimmicks to diffuse and fizzle out the momentum,” he said.

The octogenarian leader said all the leadership is behind the bars, whole Jammu and Kashmir is under the tight siege of curfew and the killing spree has no end.

“… and to create confusion and derail the current uprising, conspiracies of sending the multiple delegations has crept in as if we are in a big zoo and these people are coming in groups to see us and take our pictures.”

He said that the resistance leadership would welcome “any and every move” provided India accepted the disputed nature of Jammu and Kashmir.

“… and start demilitarization, setting a platform for the permanent and peaceful resolution of this age old conflict, we as the representatives of this oppressed nation will welcome any and every move forward in this regard.”

Geelani said that they couldn’t “demonize the sanctity of this grave issue by participating in a photo-session or for a cup of tea and appealed others also not to indulge themselves into this futile exercise.”
