In occupied Kashmir, the veteran Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani has asked Pugwash, an international conflict mediation organization, to highlight human rights violation in Kashmir and hold result oriented dialogue to pave the way for resolving the issue according to aspirations of the Kashmiris.

Syed Ali Gilani was interacting with a team of Pugwash, which called on him at his Hyderpora residence. The team led by its Secretary General, Prof Paulo Cotta-Ramusino, discussed various issues relating to the Kashmir issue with Gilani.

“I told the Pugwash team that the conferences organized by it on Kashmir in the past have failed to yield any results. If Pugwash is serious in resolving the dispute, it should hold result oriented dialogue in accordance with aspirations of Kashmiris and UN resolutions on Kashmir,” he added.

“I told the team that Pugwash has maintained silence over unabated human rights violations committed by Indian forces and policemen to suppress the ongoing movement for right to self-determination and impressed it to highlight these atrocities through conferences,” he said.

The veteran leader said the Pugwash team recommended dialogue with Kashmiris living on both side of Line of Control. “I told the team that the authorities had squeezed political space for freedom leaders. I have been put under continuous house arrest, movement of most of the liberation leaders has been restricted and thousands of Kashmiri detainees are languishing in jails within and outside the state. In this situation it is difficult to hold any dialogue with Kashmiris living on either side of LoC,” he said.
